As followers of Jesus Christ, we are motivated to demonstrate God’s unconditional love for all people and serve alongside the poor, the widows and orphans. We believe Field of Hope has been gifted and called to bring hope and break the destructive cycle of hunger and poverty through agriculture development. We are inspired by the model laid out in Deuteronomy 24:19-21 which pairs opportunities for people to get their needs met (the field) with a willingness to work (going into the field to harvest the crops). When these two principles are in place, a person’s dignity is affirmed as they receive a hand-up, not a hand-out.
When you are harvesting in your field and you overlook a sheaf, do not go back to get it. Leave it for the alien, the fatherless and the widow, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. When you beat the olives from your trees, do not go over the branches a second time. Leave what remains for the alien, the fatherless and the widow. When you harvest the grapes in your vineyard, do not go over the vines again. Leave what remains for the alien, the fatherless and the widow.
We believe a field of hope is created when we join hands and develop opportunities for people to get their needs met in a dignified manner. What better way to do this than through agriculture? What about you? What is the field of hope you have to offer? How can you bring your talents and resources to the table and join us to make an impact in the life of another?
